The accelerated death benefit provision will prepay up to 100% of the death benefit. The benefits are payable to the owner; however, the owner may specify otherwise.
Accelerated Benefit Triggers
Terminal Illness
A qualifying diagnosis of terminal illness (documented life expectancy of 24 months or less). No elimination period. The insurance company must receive written notice of election of this option, and a physician’s certification that the insured became terminally ill after the policy’s effective date.
Convalescent Care
Clarica will make accelerated payments after at least 90 days have passed since the insured has been continuously confined to, or continuously received services from, an eligible institution. However, Clarica will not make payments for convalescent care if they’re paying benefits for terminal illness or hospice care.
Hospice Care
Entrance into a hospice program. No elimination period. Clarica must receive written notice of election of this option, and a physician must prescribe receipt of hospice care after the policy’s effective date.
